Habitat and Distribution

Black rats are found all over the world, except in polar regions, in a variety of habitats. In the UK they are found on islands and around ports, rocky shores and cliffs.

Black rats live in groups called packs and these vary in size but include several males and two or more dominant females. Black rats can have up to ten babies at a time, usually three to five times per year. They are able to have babies when they are three months old.
