Shed Loads of Skin!

Basil the Burmese python at Drusillas Park shed his skin this week on a very grand scale! The resulting slough measured over 5 metres and was the equivalent length of three keepers!

Basil is the largest snake at the award-winning zoo in East Sussex; he was born in 1990 and is 23 years old.

In the wild, these impressive reptiles are found in the rainforests of south-east Asia and can grow up to seven metres. They shed their skin approximately four to five times a year in order to grow.
